Comparing Different Types of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers temporarily make your face appear rested, rejuvenated, and younger. These injections can plump thinning lips, lift eyebrows, enhance cheekbones, erase under-eye circles, and smooth smile lines. Both men and women can use them to restore a youthful appearance. Best of all, dermal fillers can be injected in less than an hour, requiring little to no downtime.
Many dermal filler products are on the market and finding the right one is challenging. If you’re considering this treatment, here are some critical things about our dermal fillers at Flawless Aesthetic Center.
Fillers vs. Relaxers
Fillers do as the name suggests: they fill, plump, and enhance where they are injected. Other injectables like BOTOX and Dysport are wrinkle relaxers. They temporarily relax muscles that cause crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and the “eleven” lines between the eyebrows. When paired as a non-surgical facelift, fillers and relaxers can completely restore volume, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and address deeper folds that have developed over time.
Today, multiple fillers are available, each tailored to address specific issues. At Flawless Aesthetic Center, we carry Juvederm and Restylane to aid our patients in achieving their ideal look.
Juvederm
Juvéderm is a collection of fillers, and different forms are designed to be used in different areas of the face. For example:
- Juvéderm Voluma XC adds youthful contours to the cheeks
- Juvéderm Ultra XC plumps up the lips
- Juvéderm Volbella XC softens vertical lip lines
The main ingredient in Juvéderm is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar found in the body that gives the skin moisture, volume, and elasticity. As HA depletes with age, skin loses volume, and wrinkles are more likely to appear. Additionally, research from 2007 shows that HA injections boost the skin’s collagen production.
That means you need fewer touch-ups, and less material will be necessary. And because HA is found naturally in the body, there’s no risk of an allergic reaction. The effects of Juvéderm can last from six to 18 months before the body gradually absorbs the material. However, if you’re unhappy with your results, we can wholly or partially remove HA fillers with hyaluronidase.
Restylane
Like Juvéderm, Restylane products are designed to treat various problem areas:
- The original Restylane smoothes away wrinkles and folds and can add volume to thin lips
- Restylane Lyft (formerly Perlane-L) corrects severe wrinkles and folds, restores volume loss in the cheeks, and adds fullness to the backs of the hands
- Restylane Silk is designed to enhance the lips, as it is made with smaller particles than the other products
Restylane fillers are also HA injections that stimulate natural collagen production. Clinical studies found that with “full treatment,” which includes one repeat injection, results last up to 18 months. More specifically:
- Results in the cheeks last up to one year
- Results last up to six months in wrinkles and folds with Restylane Lyft
- Results in the lips last up to six months with Restylane Silk
