INJECTABLES: The Modern Day Fountain of Youth?
Sooner or later it seems to happen to us all. We’re prepping for an important work event, or for the social occasion of our year, or we see a photo of ourselves from not too long ago. And we wonder: What Happened?!
Don’t panic. You’re not alone.
It takes time, work and focus to maintain the youth, vigor and vibrance of our younger years. But it can be done.
For example’s sake, let’s say you or a girlfriend are a bit troubled or introverted about looks. Maybe over time your cheeks have started to droop, or your lips have lost volume, or you’ve started noticing those pesky little lines between your eyes on the bridge of your nose (called “Elevens” or “11 lines” — though not from Stranger Things).
What are our options? Well, there are three things we can do immediately to start tackling these lines and more:
- First, we can use a good moisturizer on the skin between our eyebrows.
- Next, we can wear sunglasses — since we get the lines when we squint, and we squint more when we’re out in the sun without…sunglasses!
- Finally, we can massage the skin and muscles between our eyebrows.
We can do the same for almost all of the other age-related changes throughout our face. But there’s a catch: The changes tend to outpace the work we do to turn back the clock on aging.
Dermal Fillers & Injectables
That’s where dermal fillers and injectables come in. If you were losing too much weight, gaining too much weight, or lacking energy, you would adjust your diet and solve the problem.
Thankfully, it is no different with our skin — over time our skin loses its ability to hold water, and to hold itself up nice and firmly, while still looking young.
Dermal fillers correct that by boosting a sugar that is already found within the body, called hyaluronic acid. This basically improves your skin’s ability to hold water better, and be more youthful and elastic.
Botox is another option. Ultimately, what causes our skin to crease and fold and gives it these little — or not so little — lines, are the muscles below the skin that push and pull at the skin when we smile, frown, laugh or speak. So, to handle that, we can “turn off” only the right muscles so that they no longer push or pull the skin and give us those unsightly lines, creases and wrinkles. Even better, the wrinkles and lines disappear quickly, since the muscles being flexed is what caused them in the first place.
Here are the questions I’m often asked about dermal fillers and Botox:
Are Injectables Good for People With Dark Skin?
Injectables work the same for men and women, and for dark and light skin alike. In fact, they may actually work better for people with darker skins as there is already less UV damage, making the results even more pronounced.
People will darker skin tend to show fewer signs of aging early in their lives, but those age related changes that do set in become noticeably sooner or later. Whereas Caucasion patients typically start getting Botox and other dermal filler injections in their late 20s, melanated patients usually start looking for solutions to age-related changes in their mid- to late 30s. Botox and dermal fillers are suitable for all skin types.
Can men and women get Botox?
Yes. In fact, it’s probably a lot more common than you would think. Men who get Botox usually do it to handle many of the same things females do — like lines between the eyebrows — as well as for a couple of additional reasons: things like a cleft chin, underarm sweating, neck spasms and lazy eyes. They’re all safely treatable with Botox.
Will Botox make me look younger?
If you look over your face, what do you see? What makes you look older? Is it sagging skin? Or tiny little wrinkles and lines everywhere? Like on the lips, the forehead, and under the eyes? That’s usually what makes us look older than we are, or look old to begin with. So, yes, because Botox and dermal fillers can handle all of these, they tend to make people look a lot younger than they did before the procedure.
And strutting into that important workplace meeting or the social event of your year will be a confidence-filled occasion that is… naturally perfect.
