How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. It is classified as a neuromodulator, which means that it alters nerve activity. Simply put, it blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. By blocking these signals, BOTOX causes the targeted muscles to relax and soften. This mechanism addresses cosmetic complaints such as wrinkles and lines and many medical conditions. By injecting a minimal amount of BOTOX into a muscle, it will relax. With frown lines, this causes the overlying skin to smooth. In the case of hyperhidrosis, the nerves which activate your sweat glands are blocked, preventing excessive sweating.

What to expect
